Work packages

BONUS SEAM will carry out interdisciplinary analysis and synthesis addressing how to move “Towards improved environmental status assessment and monitoring systems for the Baltic Sea”.

Work package 1 will provide an efficient management of the project including internal communication and steering. Interactions with stakeholders will be maintained with the established BONUS SEAM advisory board.

Work package 2 is specifically targeted at addressing the call request for an outcome of a critical analysis of currently applied monitoring systems, their correspondence with the assessment requirements under different policies and identification of the priority ways of improvement.

Work package 3 will address the call for a review of the current development of novel cost-efficient marine monitoring and assessment approaches and methodologies applicable in the Baltic Sea.

Work package 4 will provide as its outcome a proposal for a revised monitoring system for the Baltic Sea. The revised monitoring system will build upon the critical analysis of task 2 and through this provide recommendations for closing existing information gaps. It will also be informed by an analysis of opportunities for cross-sector data gathering and the review of state-of-the-art observation methodologies under Task 3. All tasks will be conducted concerning the requirements of EU data collection, HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan, EU Water Framework Directive, EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive and EU Common Fisheries Policy frameworks.

Work package 5 will work to establish a flow of external-facing information from the project towards key stakeholders such as the national authorities and international organisations. This includes the production of a series of policy briefs providing a concise summary of the project outcomes.
