The state of the sea and its development

The Swedish Institute for the Marine Environment, SIME, has as its key tasks the development of assessment of the state of the sea and the provision of scentific support on issues concerning the marine evvironment to national authorities. Data from a large number of environmental monitoring programmes, both at national and regional levels, are used to make these assessments.

The programme Assessing the state of the sea is focused on describing the state of the sea and how it changes in relation to the development of society.

The work within the programme is multidisciplinary and is divided into five thematic areas:

The operations within each thematic area are set on an annual basis in the SIME business plan. The whole programme is coordinated by Anders Grimvall.
