SIME participated in The Ocean Conference of the United Nations in New York

The Swedish Institute for the Marine Environment contributed to the high-level United Nations ocean conference.

The conference aimed to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

The conference was convened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York 5 - 9 June 2017 and was co-hosted by the governments of Fiji and Sweden.

SIME´s contribution consisted of two reports: Marine plastic litter on Small Island Developing States (SIDS): Impacts and measure and Mitigating marine eutrophication in the presence of strong societal driving forces. Both reports focused on sustainable solutions to problems in the marine environment and what kind of adjustment measures these require in society.

SIME also participated in an exhibition with a film about eutrophication and arrange a seminar on marine litter.
