Marine issues have traditionally been a research area within natural science. It is now becoming increasingly clear that problems concering the ocean are tightly connected to society, and it is obvious that also several other scientific diciplines can contribute both to defining the problems as well as finding their solutions.

The Swedish Institute for the Marine Environment, SIME, holds high competence in several scientific disciplines, including both natural and social sciences.

The different areas that are presently in focus for the SIME, as well as projects that the institute either coordinates or participates in are described here.
