SYKE, Finland

Dr Henrik Nygård (SYKE –Marine Research Centre) is a Senior Research Scientist in the Monitoring and Assessments Unit. He is coordinating Finland’s national benthic monitoring programme, a member of the HELCOM Intersessional Network on Benthic habitats and co-leading the HELCOM benthic indicator work. Dr Nygård will act as SYKE PI and take the lead in WP2 and task 2.2. Adjunct professor Maiju Lehtiniemi (SYKE – Marine Research Centre) is a Leading Research Scientist in the Monitoring and Assessments Unit. Dr Lehtiniemi is coordinating the national zooplankton and non-indigenous species monitoring in Finland and co-lead for development of Finland’s marine m icrolitter monitoring. She is a member of the HELCOM Zooplankton Expert Network (ZEN), a co-lead on the zooplankton core indicator as well as the leader of HELCOM NIS indicator work. Dr Lehtiniemi will lead the zooplankton work in task 2.3. Dr. Jaakko Mannio (SYKE – Center for Sustainable Consumption and Production) coordinates the national monitoring of contaminants in the aquatic environment. Dr Mannio acts as national expert for contaminant monitoring in HELCOM expert groups (2009-) (CORESET, EN-HAZ, HOLAS II) and key national expert on POPs in Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme AMAP (1997-). Jenni Attila (SYKE – Geoinformatics Research Unit) is a senior researcher with expertise is in applying remote sensing techniques to monitor water quality. She is involved in HELCOM indicator development (Chlorophyll-a and Cyanobacterial bloom index)
