BALTSPACE has the overarching aim of providing science-based approaches and tools to clarify and improve the capacity of Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) as a policy integrator in the Baltic Sea Region. This aims to increased understanding of present and future challenges in governance of the Baltic Sea Region.

Initially, academic and non-academic literature will be used to identify the specific conditions which influence integration at various levels. For example, what are the known obstacles for effective stakeholder integration? What can spatial planning theory contribute to facilitating territorial integration? What factors have been identified in other projects that enable successful policy integration?

The project partners are: Södertörn university, Aarhus university, SIME, Maritime institute in Gdansk, Corpi, Helmhotz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Leibniz Intitute for Baltic Sea research Warnemünde and s.Pro Sustainable Projects.

BALTSPACE is a project within the Bonus programme funded jointly by the EU and Baltic Sea national funding institutions.
